Healthcare has been heralded as the shining star in the job market during the recession. Unfortunately, as recent data is showing healthcare is not immune from employment issues.
According to an article in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the number of healthcare jobs in Georgia increased by .9 percent from July of last year to this year.
As far as why the minimal growth the article states:
-The unemployed and newly frugal postpone elective surgeryand other non-essential medical needs.
-Hospital costs for indigent care soar.
-Reduced Medicare and Medicaid payments hurt bottom lines.
-And uncertainty over the new federal health care law causes CEO's to budget cautiously.
Nationally, healthcare hasn't been affected like most other industries. However, the evidence is showing that it has suffered. The future job market in healthcare is still very strong as new healthcare policies are expected to create jobs.
